Honest Review #5
Honest Review #5: Déjà vu all over again
The good news is
Fitzpatrick didn’t throw a pick. Bad news is the Jets lost again. As a Jet fan
you would think that I am used to it. However, I have to say that with each
loss the pain grows deeper and deeper with the amount of talent the team has on
both sides of the ball. On offense we have two of the best players in their
respective positions—that being Brandon Marshall and Matt Fortè. Ryan Fitzpatrick
has been nothing short of terrible this season, but the offense is somehow we
are still in the games. The defense has been working their asses off to keep
the score close.
I honestly don’t know how
the Jets didn’t win this game. At one point deep into the fourth quarter the
Jets were winning in turnovers, time of possession, and rushing yards. Looking at
the numbers the game should have been closer than it was. The one number that
isn’t too promising is the third down conversion percentage in game was 2/11 or
18%. Brandon Marshall had a great game minus the three key drops that were
drive killers. This team is just one step, one second off a route from clicking
on all cylinders. The team looked out of sync yet again without Eric Decker,
but Austin Seferian Jenkins wasn’t as involved as he should be. What Chan
Gailey and Ryan Fitzpatrick need to understand is that this man could drive
this team to another level. What Quincy Enunwa is doing could be times by two
with the ability of Seferian Jenkins. The defense didn’t play as well as I would
have liked them to, but like I said they kept the team in the game for the
majority of the game.
The defense can only do
so much for the offense without giving up a couple of big plays to one of the
NFL’s best offenses. The body of work that Sheldon Richardson and Marcus Williams
did today has to be shined out above anyone of the team. Those two were giving
the Pittsburgh offense nightmares. Richardson had an interception and two
tackles. While Marcus Williams had seven total tackles and held Antonio Brown
under one hundred yards receiving. The team has talent and it just hasn’t
clicked on all cylinders consistently yet. The next five-week streak however,
might change the look of the Jets season. The next five games are against Arizona,
Baltimore, Cleveland, and Los Angeles. Every one of those games the Jets can
compete in and ultimately win. For a team that is in dire need of a “W” you
could see a Jets team, despite all the injuries, show up to Glendale, Arizona,
and completely run the Cardinals out of the building.
