Day 72
Fresh Start_72: There are no better words in sports than
“Game 7”
Chicago lives to fight
another day. The Cubs force a Game 7 in Cleveland tomorrow night thanks to Jake
Arrieta and Addison Russell. Russell pours in 6 RBI’s while going 2-5 in the
game. Russell hit a grand slam that made it 7-0 in the third inning, while also
breaking the first inning open with a two run double into right center. Granted
the ball hit into right-center should have been caught by somebody, but
nevertheless it wasn’t. Josh Tomlin only goes 2 1/3 innings,
allowing 6 earned runs.
Jake Arrieta was his
usual Cy Young self, going 52/3 innings giving up only 2 earned runs
with 9 strike outs. Rizzo would add a 2 run bomb in the top of the 9th
just as insult to injury as the Cubs cruse into a Game 7 tomorrow night. Kyle
Shwarber went 1-4 with a walk in his return to the lineup.
Cub fans everywhere have
to be at the least bit optimistic about a Game 7, with all the momentum they
have, plus Klueber on short rest and Kyle Hendricks on full rest. Again, on
paper the Cubs win the game and take home their first World Series to Chicago
in 108 years. If the Cubs have done anything this postseason, is draw out aces on
their second time around on short rest. They beat Bumgardner on short rest
(even though Bumgardner was not the pitcher of record), they beat Kershaw on
short rest, and they have a third stab at it tonight against Klueber.
If you are Cleveland on
the other hand, you have to score runs early on against Chicago tonight. Let
the home fans really get into the game and drown out any chance of an early Cub
rally. Let your base stealers get on and create havoc early and often. Carlos
Santana needs to be in the middle of the order just because of what he has done
to Cubs pitching and Hendricks in general. Batting him in the middle of the
order is an absolute MUST. Getting early runs will also help Klueber settle
down and use his adrenalin to the best of his ability and make the rest a
nonfactor. The last key for Cleveland is letting the best player in the
postseason, Andrew Miller get into the game as early as possible with the lead,
and ride him as long as you possibly can.
Overall, it should be a
game for the ages and you DO NOT want to miss out. Game 7 is on Fox @ 8PM EST, check your local listening and check
what time 8PM EST is for you. YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS BASEBALL HISTORY.
