NY 500 XIV

NY 500 #14
Thanksgiving weekend in New York is something different from everywhere else in the entire country. From the Thanksgiving day parade going through the streets of Manhattan to the occasional hockey game, or Jets Thanksgiving game. neither of those two situations happened this year and it was refreshing to not to have to worry about one of my teams and just enjoy Thanksgiving with my family.

The Rangers split the weekend with a bad loss on Sunday and a very nice win on Black Friday against the rival Flyers. The Blue shirts are still the number one team in scoring and are still a top ten team in penalty killing. The Rangers still lead the Metropolitan division by two points over the Penguins. The Islanders are going through one of the worst stretches in the league right now, only having 2 wins in the entire month of November. The Islanders play at home against Calgary and hopefully they can get on the right foot going into the month of December.

The Nets are continuing their way to the bottom of the league, currently in the middle of a 7 game losing streak and it will most likely continue for the foreseeable future. The Knicks are an up and down team at 8-9 with some interesting storylines. Kristaps Porzingis is showing why he could be a strong MVP candidate while Carmelo is not playing at a superstar level at all. Friday night at times when Melo had the ball in his hands, he was getting boo’d by the Garden crowd, which is something that you never see. Joakim Noah is up and down, seeming like he is a player that has been paid too late into his career. In other words, he is getting paid for the past and not the present. Derrick Rose is in the same boat, showing some of the explosive plays, but backing off on others. This team will obviously need time to gel and get the kinks worked out, but it could be a dangerous team come the end of May.

The Giants and Jets once again had a yin/yang Sunday as far as football is concerned. The Giants have won their 5th straight game and are in the middle of a playoff run. While the Jets have lost yet again and are just driving themselves deeper and deeper into the lottery for the draft. It was certainly an incredible sports weekend for New Yorkers and bundle that with family and you get one of the most successful weekends of 2016. Hopefully next weekend can live up to the one that just past.
