Day 138
Fresh Start_138: The Lebron way
Cleveland did it again. Whether
this is the work of Lebron I don’t know, but their once a year sneaky trade is
official. The Cavs acquire Kyle Korver from Atlanta for Mo Williams, Mike
Dunleavy, and a future 1st rounder. This is a little much for the
All-Star sharpshooter, but this trade means a lot to the Cavs.
With J.R. Smith out for
an extended period of time, Cleveland needs a player that will be able to stretch
the floor at the guard position. Korver is one of the best shooters in the
league, and bringing him into a winning culture in Cleveland will only make him
a better player. Playing with Lebron, Kevin Love, and Kyrie will make Korver
look like his old self again. Having a player like Korver makes the Cavs an
even more dangerous team in the playoffs. This trade was to make them stronger
when they make the Finals in June. When J.R. comes back this will make a great
3-point shooting team a monster that can go toe to toe with Golden State. The Warriors
a difficult team defensively with all of their length and talent on that side
of the floor, so to have the ability to truly spread the floor at every
position with several different rotations, it is extremely important.
The trade also keeps
Cleveland even more ahead of the rest of the East. There is something about
these type of trades that the Cavs make that makes the team more energized and
even more difficult to defend then the past. What the Cavilers are doing with
these trades can be compared to New England in the NFL with their system. The Cavs
have a system that they make stronger ever year with just in this case a single
trade.
It also can’t be out the
question that Lebron had something to do with this. It is at this point a definite
that Lebron has some say with what the front office does. He has had this type
of power since being signed with Miami. Lebron has to be the most influential
player in all of sports. There is no player in any professional league that is
making the moves “silently” like Lebron James. James has the ability to
convince the front office in season and in the offseason to pursue a specific
player. It has happened for the past 6 years in the NBA with Lebron.
What James has been able
to do is become the most difficult player to defend on and off the court. I know
he won’t win the MVP this season (at least in the regular season), but after
this trade—he is arguably the Most Valuable in the league period.
