NY 500 VII

NY 500 #17
Happy New Years from New York. It was a great weekend in New York sports. The Jets blew the doors off of Buffalo for their first season sweep of Buffalo in 5 years, and the Giants won a weird game. Eli didn’t throw a touchdown in a game that the G-Men rested Beckham in the second half. The Giants without Beckham played as hard as possible to ruin the Redskins chance of making the playoffs. The Jets actually resembled an ounce of the team they were last year, while sticking it to the team that ruined their chances of playoff glory last year.

The Knicks gave up the biggest triple double in NBA history over the weekend to James Harden in a bad loss. James recorded the most points in a triple double (53) with the other numbers being 17 assists and 16 rebounds. The Knicks lost by 7 and were led by Brandon Jennings who poured in 32 in a losing effort and looked to be coming around after an extremely streaky first 30 games. Joakim Noah looked like his old self again with a 15 point and 16 rebound double double with a couple of impressive second chance efforts late in the 4th quarter. The Knicks have been on a 4 game losing streak to end 2016 falling under .500, so let’s see if they can start 2017 off on a high tonight against the Magic. The Nets dropped the last 2 games of 2016 in back to back bad losses to Washington and Chicago. 2017 looks like it will be the same, and if they keep up the winning pace, they’ll end the season with 16 wins .
The Rangers put a great end to 2016 with a 6-2 win over Colorado—with Chris Kreider having a hat trick that included 2 power play goals. The Rangers continue to be one of the best teams in the NHL—staying in the top ten in Goals per game, Goals against, Power Play percentage, and Penalty Killing. The Rangers end 2016 3rd in the East, and look to continue to dominate heading into 2017. The Islanders on the other hand are the 3rd to worst team in the Eastern Conference and haven fallen off mightily. One of the biggest problems for the Islanders are that they are 28th in the NHL in Goals against, meaning that they are most likely playing from behind in most of their games.

Nothing is happening for the baseball part of the sports realm as the baseball offseason approaches 2017, with Pitchers and Catchers only about 6 weeks away. The Yankees and Mets will be putting the finishing touches on their teams if they do make a move in January, but I don’t see either of the teams pulling the trigger. With the New Year officially ushered in, let’s see what 2017 has in store.
