Honest Review #16

Honest Review #16-Where was this all year?
Well the season is over, it is bitter sweet, but it is needed. What I mean by that is that the Jets had a rough season and can build off of it. I will get into that more in to detail in my end of season article later in the week, so let’s get into game 16. This was a game to see what we had for the future. Everyone knows that Ryan Fitzpatrick will not be rejoining the Jets next season, so it was an analysis of the rest of the team. And that team that took the field today, was a team that could have beaten at least 10 other teams in the NFL today. Everyone that took the field today, looked like they wanted to be there. Nobody quit on the field today—the whole team fought for 60 minutes. Darrelle Revis had his first interception of the season, Fitzpatrick managed the game well, and Bilal Powell looked like he wanted to take the starting spot from Matt Fortè.

I was extremely proud of the defense that took the field. This is the defense that I expect to see every week as a fan, and the one I remembered from last year that dominated the game. The defense took the ball away 3 times today, which is something that they haven’t done all year. If this game was any inkling of what is to come next season—I am all in. The Jets win games by being the better defense and what I like to call “letting the dawgs loose”. When this team is playing with confidence and a chip on their shoulder on the defensive side of the ball, is when the Jets look like a playoff team. The game 16 that this years’ team is the game that the Jets need to look back at next year and try to emulate each week. I would like congratulate everyone on that defense for just straight ballin’ out today. I loved what I saw from everyone on the defense.

On offense, it wasn’t perfect but it didn’t need to be. The majority of the weapons on offense were injured, and the offense still came to play. Granted this was most likely Fitzpatrick’s last game in the NFL, but nevertheless the offense shined when it had too. Quincy Enunwa finished off an incredible 2016 season with a 5 reception 81-yard day, with the biggest play on offense. Enunwa’s 51-yard reception lead the Jets to their first touchdown of the day, and the team never looked back from there. Bilal Powell finished off a great end of the season with 122 yards rushing and 15 yards receiving with a receiving touchdown. Going into today, Powell was averaging 96 yards per game the last 3 games on the ground and stayed true to form against a struggling Buffalo defense. This is the first season sweep of the Bills in 5 years and it couldn’t have come in a worse season.

For everyone involved this is a building game and season. Decker and Marshall will be healthy next year and the defense will get better. I am happy with the note that we ended the 2016-17 season, and am excited to see what the Jets do in the offseason. It was an up and down season, but it’s now all over, so let’s rejoice that the suffering is over and focus on the offseason. As always Let’s go J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!
