Day 149

Fresh Start_149: Don’t enter this area
Locker room policy is something is a tricky situation to nail down and have rules that apply across the league. If you haven’t seen the 17-minute video that Antonio Brown’s video of the Steelers locker room postgame after the AFC Divisional game on Sunday, it is just something that can’t happen. I get videos that are short and don’t really show anything. Meaningless videos of just excitement and just joy of players being happy that they are moving on to the next round. The video is not just Brown and Bell being happy and just be goofy, it goes into some detail of the Steelers postgame team meeting.

When I was watching the video, I was wondering when the video would stop and hoping that Brown would get some common sense and just stop the video. Brown seemed like he was going to end the video, then saw how many people were watching and kept streaming the meeting. From the after game pray to head coach Mike Tomlin’s postgame team meeting, telling his players to go under the radar, and keep a low profile—not knowing that one of his star players breaking that very rule. Tomlin also had some choice words for their next opponent the New England Patriots. Bill Belichick “had no idea” how to get to Brown’s video, nor has any problem with Tomlin’s words. Belichick’s response to the video can honestly back up Tomlin’s words about the Pats.

For me, a video like that just can’t happen. Being in numerous locker rooms, a video like that is something that can’t be a distraction for my team—especially in the position that the Pittsburgh Steelers are in. The locker room is a sacred place and nobody outside of the team, should be allowed in. Antonio Brown should know what the brotherhood means in that locker room, and shouldn’t have been that thought about even doing that. The writers and reporters aren’t even allowed in for a specific time because the team needs time to just have time in a locker room after a game. Nobody on the New York Giants decided to go on Periscope when Odell Beckham Jr. punched a wall or was head butting a locker, so why does Brown get special treatment?

I understand that some NFL players have a demand to share their lives on social media, and a smaller percentage enjoy doing so. I enjoy seeing Odell Beckham Jr. posting a new picture or video on Instagram, but the player and the person are different entities. Beckham’s personal brand is something completely different then how many touchdowns he scores on Sunday’s. Antonio Brown is good friends with a huge social media mogul both literally and figuratively, Mr. D.J. Khaled. Having a friend like that, that has no issue with bringing his fans into every part of his life, it could have the potential to rub off. But, being a Superstar Wide Receiver you need to act like it. You can dance around and be just be an absolute child in the locker room, but you have some sense of being a professional at times like that. It will be interesting to see how the Pittsburgh Steelers will reprimand Brown for his actions.
