Day 14

Fresh Start_14: What Now?
As the Olympics are now almost three weeks behind us, the focus from the basketball world shifts to the upcoming NBA season. That also brings back the storyline of Kevin Durant and his new team the Golden State Warriors. With Klay, Draymond, and Durant getting reps together playing for the US in Brazil, Curry sat out with some injuries and that chemistry still needs some testing. Not to mention some real NBA game reps. People often forget how hard it really is to gel superstars together on the court. Remember the Celtics back in ’08, or the Heat back in 2012, and most recently the Cavs. It is not that easy to just put a super team together and aspect the world from the players. The spacing on the floor with dramatically change, as will the rotations. All four of the Super Four will want and need their touches to get going. That will take some time for the Warriors.
Honestly, I am expecting a worst season than last year because of this addition. Possibly to some teams that the entire Golden State Organization will look at and wonder how they lost. Now this will not last all year and all of the four will carry the team in a game more than once this year, that’s for sure. But, don’t go into the season looking for 72-0 from Golden State. The coaching staff will also have a great challenge managing the rotations, personalities, plays, and ball movement. Not to mention that the Warriors are losing a big piece of the staff in Luke Walton who is going to LA to rebuild the Lakers. Walton with a doubt was a huge reason for the Warriors success last season in the midst of Steve Kerr’s absence.
So, putting this immense target on the back of an already talented and targetable team in Golden State; you would have to think it is an absolute championship or bust for the Warriors. And what on earth will happen if they manage to loss another championship? Does Kevin Durant leave? Does Curry leave for more money somewhere else? Does the entire city of San Francisco implode from the failure? And that hypothetical failure would most certainly be the greatest failure in sports history. Which in fact may stick with the team and give them permeant “Playoff Hangover”. On the other hand; when the Warriors figure it all out, it could turn into a video game and become one of the greatest sports dynasty’s we have even seen. Like I’ve said from the beginning, it will be an incredible storyline and great tv.
