Day 27
Fresh Start_27: The Year of the curse?
With the Chicago Cubs clinching
the NL Central division on Friday, they have their best chance to break the
114-year curse of not winning a World Series. This ball club is one of the best
ever assembled. This team has similarities to the 2007 New England Patriots
that lost the Superbowl. What the Patriots and this Cub team have in common is
that there is not an aspect of the game that the team doesn’t excel at. With the
trade to acquire Aroldis Chapman the Cubs locked up the division due to the
fact that they were already winning games at an all-time pace.
The stage is set for
Chicago to make history and make the entire North side of Chicago cloud nine. Everyone
predicted this team to do incredible things, but nobody expected the Chapman
trade the unbelievable run that the Cubs have been on. Cub fans around the
country have to be cautiously optimistic because the cubbies have been in a
similar place before and nothing is set in stone yet. But if I had money to
spend in Vegas I would bet it all on the Cubs winning it all this year.
And the odds may be on
the side of the Cubs. The Cleveland Cavaliers broke the 52-year curse for the
entire city of Cleveland. Lebron James came through on his promise of deliever
a title to the city of Cleveland and Theo Epstein and Joe Madden might come
through on theirs. The match-up for the Cubs might also favor the North siders
as well. They will have to face the Nationals who have had some late season
injuries and problems in the back end of the pen and rotation. Thanks to Tony
Kornheisers’ new podcast, I hear about the Nats every single day. And for me if
the Yankees don’t get into the playoffs I will be cheering for the Cubs to
break the curse.
