Day 33

Fresh Start_33: Big Ticket
Yesterday one of this generations legends called it quits. It’s a shame that three icons for the game retire in the same season. Kevin Garnett was one of the game’s elite for over a decade. Garnett was a fourteen-time all-star, a two time MVP, and an NBA champion. Coming out of high school, Garnett set the tone for players skipping college and heading right into the NBA. Garnett played an old-fashion style of basketball in a new age of faster, stronger guys. Garnett’s grit and tenacity of defense will never be questioned or emulated ever again. Garnett prided himself on defense and that shows in his twelve times on the NBA’s “all-defense” teams as well as his defense player award in 2008. Garnett was the total package in a game of stationary power forwards.
Now Garnett wasn’t the stretch four that we are accustom to seeing now. Garnett could hit the ten to twelve footer with consistency, rebound on both ends with an unparalleled hustle. And on the other end just shutting down the power forward or center. It was a given that Garnett was going to hold the opponents four or five. One of the reasons for that is because KG was a famous and really good trash talker. Some say the best of all-time. We all know the Charlie Villanueva incident back when KG was on the Boston Celtics.
Garnett was part of the first “Big Three” and changed the league forever. The move ended up paying off in 2008 where the C’s won the title, and Garnett’s final hurtle to the hall of fame. I believe that he will be a first ballot hall of famer. Many people think the same as me. And here’s my thank you to a legend.
Dear Kevin Garnett,
Thank you for the way you played the game and the people you inspired. Thank you for being a defensive beast. Thank you for going my team the Brooklyn Nets and changing the culture for the time that you were here. Thank you for making my brother who is a Boston Celtics fan for bringing him into the game and giving him a championship and the overall joy of that. You are a legend, an icon, and the best trash talker of all-time. You have changed the overall culture of the game, and have impacted the league for the rest of time. Enjoy your retirement and I hope for the best.
Sincerely a gracious NBA fan.
