Day 230
Fresh Start_230: The return of the Durant-tula
In his return to the
starting lineup last night, Kevin Durant looked like he didn’t miss a beat
against the Pelicans last night. Durant in 31 minutes had 16 points, 10
rebounds, and 6 assists. Durant was an MVP candidate when he was on the floor
before he got hurt. Durant this season is averaging 25 points, 8 rebounds, and
4 assists.
Durant is a huge part of
what the Warriors want to do in the playoffs, but getting Durant back into the
rotation, and getting the chemistry back with Durant with be the hard part.
Steph Curry is now looking like the MVP that we have seen over the past two
years, so how will that translate with Durant back in the rotation? Well last
night we didn’t get an answer because Curry didn’t play thanks to a knee
contusion.
The small ball lineup with
Durant at the 4 and Draymond Green at the 5, with Iggy, Klay, and Steph on the
floor with them is their best lineup. What this lineup can do in theory is absolutely
terrifying for the opposition. The ability to stretch the floor from everyone
on the floor can open up the cuts to the basket, and the dribble drive game
that Golden State loves to do. As crazy as it may seem, the Warriors are going
to have to learn how to play with each other all over again because when a big
part of your team misses 20 games it impacts the team drastically.
The Warriors also have to
make sure Durant is 100% healthy and he seems like his is playing 31 minutes.
Golden State is no stranger to this due to the fact that they did the same
thing last season when Curry suffered an ankle injury in the first round of the
playoffs against Houston. When the Warriors are healthy this team is possibly
the best team ever assembled, so with 2 games left in the regular season,
Golden State has to take a Kevin Durant crash course before the playoffs.
