In between the Pinstripes #23
In between the
Pinstripes_23: I really like this team
Listening and watching the
broadcast this afternoon, after that incredible comeback, you get a true sense
of how cohesive the team is. The team chemistry on this team right now is
unlike anything we have seen, really since the 2009 World Series Championship
team. Now, I am not comparing this team to the ’09 team by any means, but the
electricity in the ballpark and the looseness of the team is a good sign. This team
seems to truly be a brotherhood, they trust each other, and support one
another.
This is being showcased when
the team is in first place, getting out to a blazing 15-7 start (after starting
1-4), and is leading the AL East with one day remaining in April. And, that is
a key part of this great start, IT IS ONLY APRIL. Getting off on the right foot
is a good way to start the here, and maintain a good position to push for the
playoffs, but anything can happen. Remember, the baseball season is a marathon
not a sprint.
With this win this
afternoon, the bombers hand Baltimore their first series loss of the season,
while moving into first place, and getting a chance to sweep back to back
division opponents. The Yanks are currently riding a 4-game winning streak, and
everything seems to be right in the Bronx. I mean the team has scored 26 runs
in the past two games, you know what they say “nothing beats home cooking!” The
Yankees wasted no time with a lead-off homer by Brett Gardner his first of the
year. Gardner in the third would hit another homer—this time a 3-run shot in a
similar spot. Aaron Judge (of course) would 2-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI’s, and a monster
home run over the Yankees bullpen to stretch the lead to 12-2. However, Austin
Romine would have a great day behind the plate and at the dish. With Romine
calling yet another good game; he would add 5 RBI’s (a career high), going 2-3
with a homer of his own, and for that he is my Focus Player of the Day.
Pitching wasn’t really a
huge part of the win, Pineda pitched okay, he had a very high pitch count for
only going 5.1 with 104, but he is the pitcher of record getting his 3rd
win of the year. Adam Warren would pitch excellent in relief, shutting the door
on any potential Oriole comeback, only giving up 1 hit in 2.2 out of the pen.
Looking ahead to the game
tomorrow; a couple of southpaws take the mound for the series finale. For Baltimore,
Wade Miley takes the mound; and he is coming off a well-pitched outing his last
time out. Miley went 7 innings, only giving up 4 hits, and 2 runs, but would
get the loss in Tampa Bay. However, Miley is 0-3 with a 4.96 ERA in 8 career
starts against the bombers, with a .264 average against. Jordan Montgomery goes
for the Yanks, looking to get back in the win column, after a decent outing in
Pittsburgh. We would go 6, allowing 7 hits, but only giving up 2 runs, and
strike out 5, but would get the loss. Montgomery does feel comfortable pitching
at home, so that should give Yankee fans confident going into the series
finale. And yes, the Yankees did win again so you can “Start spreading the news,”
enjoy your Saturday evening, and look forward to a potential sweep tomorrow
afternoon.
