Day 243

Fresh Start_243: Lebron dominating behind the curtains
The NBA public takes Lebron James’ greatest for granted. Last night was one of the greatest playoff performances we have ever seen. A 41 point, 13 rebound, and 12 assist triple-double that over comes a 25-point deficit in Indiana last night and the fans just take it like business as normal. The game that Lebron had last night is his second-best playoff performance of his entire career and it’s no big deal. HE SCORED 41 POINTS AND CAME BACK FROM THE BIGGEST DEFICIT IN PLAYOFF HISTORY; that’s a big deal.

We all remember that incredible performance in the Boston Garden in Game 6 on the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals where he scored 45 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists in a win or go home game in a year that Lebron just took the NBA by storm. Oh, and the world was set on fire after this performance. Fast forward 5 years, 3 rings, 3 Finals MVP’s, and 2 MVP’s later the world doesn’t even break a sweat when he just dominates the second half without Kyrie or Kevin Love on the floor for the entire comeback.

When did the world become numb to the greatness of Lebron James for granted? The old Bob Ryan theory of “if the aliens came down to earth and challenged us to a game of basketball; who is the first pick?” has been Lebron from almost a decade now! I am not old enough to have been able to watch Michael Jordan live, but the greatness of Jordan through ‘90’s is described like God came down from earth and played basketball for the Chicago Bulls. I have watched countless highlights of Michael Jordan, but Lebron to me is something else. The conversation of “Is Lebron better than Jordan?” should be at the height of the argument right now. If you have forgotten, Lebron has been to 6 straight NBA Finals (which no other player has done), and unless the Wizards or Celtics get in the way. If Lebron plays even 70% of what he did last night, he will steam roll his way back to his 7th straight Finals.

I cannot sit here without addressing the fact that, yes, I did put out multiple column’s that I would vote for Westbrook for the MVP. The award is MVP of the regular season, there’s a reason why there is a Finals MVP and Andre Iguodala won it with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson on his team. Westbrook had the best season and was the most valuable player on any team this year, it just so happened to play out that way.

Lebron did have more wins, but the way that his team played overall from January on, hurt Lebron’s chances for a legitimate MVP run. But, Lebron doesn’t care about the regular season and you can see it with teams in the playoffs. Teams like San Antonio, Golden State, Chicago, and Cleveland rested their stars because they know what it takes to win a title. Teams like Boston, Houston, and Oklahoma City didn’t rest their stars and went for it in the regular season because they are young teams that wouldn’t be in the playoffs if they didn’t give 110% in the regular season. That’s just how the NBA is today and that is perfectly fine because it makes the season compelling in more ways than one.

But, there is another playoff for Lebron and the Cavs, which is them going for the sweep against the Pacers tomorrow in Indiana at 1PM EST on ABC. Lebron will be 20-0 in the first round since joining the Heat back in 2011, and to not lose a game in the first round is puts the sprinkles on the sundae that is Lebron James career.

Why do people like myself, Colin Cowherd, and Nick Wright among others have to scream in people’s face that Lebron is still the same player he was in 2012… only better. If you go on ESPN right now, “Lebron’s epic comeback” is only on the sidebar of the website, not front and center like it should be. Michael Jordan was praised and hated just like Lebron, but the difference is Jordan has been praised like God himself for 25-30 years now, like Lebron is the devil from the pits of hell. Lebron is the greatest player I have ever seen, why are the Utah Jazz getting more press than Lebron?
