In between the Pinstripes #22
In between the
Pinstripes_22: It ain’t over til it’s
over!
WHAT A BALL GAME! An
absolute classic, and just an unbelievable comeback from the Yankees. The fight
that the Yanks showed tonight is a great sight to see, this team has a “never
say die” attitude and are playing some great baseball in the Bronx. It was a
warm night in the Bronx tonight, and the ball was flying out of the yard
tonight.
C.C. didn’t have his best
stuff but fought threw 5.2 innings, but gave up 9 hits and 7 runs. His finally
line was: 5.2 innings, 9 hits, 7 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strike outs. The bullpen
stepped up big time after Bryan Mitchell. The combination of Holder, Clippard,
and Chapman pitched 3.2 innings scoreless and allowed the bombers to complete
this 8-run comeback. I did turn off the game when the score was 9-1, but
quickly turned the game back on when Aaron Judge his second homer of the game
in the bottom of the 6th and didn’t turn it off from then on. I am
just speechless from the improbable comeback by the Yankees tonight.
I absolutely lost it when
Starlin Castro hit the game tying 2-run bomb into the left field seats to tie
the game. Before that however, Jacoby Ellsbury contributed 5 RBI’s and 4 of
them coming on his 100th career homer—a grand slam in the bottom of
the 7th. I can’t imagine how the fans at the game reacted when
Starlin hit the game tying homer, but it must have been incredible. Chapman
delivered a great top of the 10th striking out 2 out of the 4
batters he faced. The Yankees scored 6 runs in the final two innings to
complete the comeback, with the help of Jayson Aquino who served up the game
winning 3-run shot to Matt Holiday. And if Matt Holiday wanted a coming out
party in pinstripes, the past two days he has defiantly delivered. Matt Holiday
in the past two days has gone: 5-8, 5 RBI’s, 3 runs, and that walk-off homer. Welcome
to the Bronx Mr. Holiday you are welcome to stay for as long as you want. Today
Holiday went 3-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI’s, and a walk—getting my Focus Player of the
Day. I thought about giving it to the entire team for the way they played
tonight, but honorable mentions tonight are Aaron Judge for going 2-4, 2
homers, and 3 RBI’ and Starlin Castro for going 3-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI’s, and the
game tying bomb.
Looking ahead to tomorrow
afternoon, Big Mike takes the mound against Ubaldo Jimenez. Jimenez in his last
start didn’t escape the 4th inning going 3.1 innings, giving up 3
hits, 3 runs, 5 walks, and 3 strike outs getting a no decision. In his career Jimenez
4-5 with a 6.35 ERA in 12 starts with a .287 batting average against. Pineda on
the other hand, is coming off a no decision in Pittsburgh where he went 5 innings,
gave up 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strike outs. Hopefully history is on the
bombers side tomorrow and the Yanks can tee off against Jimenez like old times
and win the series. The Yankees came back from an 8-run deficit on their way to
“Start spreading the news.” I am on another level after this comeback, so I cannot
wait for tomorrow’s matinee in the Bronx.
