In between the Pinstripes #20
In between the
Pinstripes_20: A great birthday for
Aaron Judge
Well that wasn’t easy!
Aroldis Chapman did not make the first game in the Red Sox-Yankee game of the
year. After a rain out yesterday, Luis Severino took the mound for a foggy, odd
baseball game in Boston. Severino also had a fantastic outing; even if he
personally does not like to pitch in Fenway. Severino’s line is: 7 innings, 3
hits, no runs allowed, 2 walks, and 6 strike outs on 100 pitches. Betances came
on for a flawless hold including 2 strike outs. Chapman on the other hand; got
the save, but gave up an earned run, with 2 walks, on 33 pitches.
Aaron Judge, the birthday
boy, stole the show in Fenway tonight. Not only did he hit a 2-run homer into
the Yankees pen to get the bombers off on the right foot, but would make one of
the greatest catches of the season so far, going into the stands along the
right field foul line. It took review to make sure the catch was indeed a catch
(I know Major League Baseball is turning into the NFL). Judge would go 1-3 with
2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored, while also getting my Focus Player of the Day. I am
happy that everyday baseball is back after an off day and a rain out.
Looking ahead to the
series finale, boy do we have an instant classic brewing! The pitching matchup
is Masahiro Tanaka against Chris Sale. This will be Sale’s first time in the
Yankee-Red Sox rivalry, and if his career stats against the Yanks are anything
like they have been, Sale will have no problem in a Red Sox uniform. Sale’s career
stats against bombers is 4-1 with a 1.17 ERA in 10 games (7 starts), and .165 batting
average against. Tanaka’s last start was a gem; going 7 innings, giving up 6
hits, one run, 2 walks, and 6 strike outs. Hopefully Tanaka will continue
pitching well and truly be the ace of the staff. Sweeping an abbreviated 2-game
series against the Red Sox would be a perfect way to end this short road trip,
and some momentum going into a weekend series against Baltimore at the Stadium.
But, the Yankees have won today, so you can “Start spreading the news” and
enjoy this Yankees win. As you are doing that; you can get ready for the
instant classic that is the Tanaka-Sale matchup.
