In between the Pinstripes #11

In between the Pinstripes_11: 5 Straight
Scary but a good win by the bombers tonight, pushing the winning streak to 5 straight. The night didn’t look too promising as Tanaka gave up a 2-run homer as the fans were still filing into their seats. Starlin Castro tied the game right back up with a 2-run shot of his own to right to nod the game up at 2. Austin Romine would add a homer in the third to give the Yankees the lead.

Getting back to Tanaka, he would settle down after that rough first, giving up only one more run in his outing. Tanaka’s final line looks like this: 6.1 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strike outs on 103 pitches. This outing although not perfect is a decent building block for Tanaka’s season, going more than 5 innings, throwing over 100 pitches, and getting his first win of the year. The three-headed monster of Clippard/Betances/Chapman would shut the door; although Chapman would make it interesting in the 9th. Chapman would walk Randal Grichuk, then give up a double to pinch hitter Jose Martinez, putting the go-ahead run on second. He would settle down getting former teammate Dexter Fowler to ground Starlin to end the game. In order to get this 5th straight win the game wouldn’t have been the same with the Focus Player of the Day, Starlin Castro. If Starlin didn’t pick up Tanaka in the bottom of the first, the game would’ve completely different and for that he is the Focus Player of the game. Castro would also add a single to his good day.

Tomorrow will be a tough 6th win if the Yankees indeed get the win. The bombers will be tasked to go up against Cardinal ace Carlos Martinez. Martinez in two games is 0-1 with a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings fanning 13. Martinez will be the Yanks biggest test of the young season, and hopefully this timely hitting can continue. Keep riding this good start and winning streak. Yankee fans you can yet again “Start spreading the news” and continue to smile heading into tomorrow’s matinee against the Cards.
