NY 500 XXIX
NY 500 #29
The time of year that we
are currently living in is the best time of year. Baseball season is in full
swing being a week into it, the NHL playoffs schedule is set, the NBA has a
tiny amount of games left, and the NBA MVP race is getting hotter than ever.
The Rangers get set for a
tough playoff matchup against the Montreal Canadians starting on Wednesday in
Montreal. I think playing on the road in the playoff opener will be good for
the Rangers and a change of pace for a team that has been starting at home for
the past two years. The Islanders fell short with 94 points only one point
short of the playoffs and that might be because the Islanders shut down John
Taveras for the season. I also think this is good for the Islanders if they are
going to continue to play in Brooklyn, so the organization can fix the ice for
the next few seasons before they could possibly move back to Nassau County
within a few years.
The Knicks are still a
dumpster fire being 6-15 in their last 21 games, they shut down Rose with a
torn meniscus yet again, and shorting the minutes of Carmelo. The Nets had a
nice moment with their fans after the 107-106 win in the Barclays Center—with
the players giving the fans jerseys off their own backs right after the game.
Nice moment or not, the Nets are still 20-60 with two games left and are still the
worst team in the NBA with it not even being close. Let it still be known that
basketball in New York is in a state of disarray and just awful. Basketball fans
can pack it in and wait for next year.
The Jets and Giants are
in the bellows of their practice facilities trying to finalize their draft
boards. I am extremely excited for the NFL draft, and I don’t say that often,
but the amount of talent in this years’ draft might be the best of the decade.
The Yankees and Mets are
officially in the swing of the MLB season with at least 6 games underneath
their belt. The Yankees got a near perfect performance out of Michael Pineda in
a “prove it” game to the fans and for his confidence level. The Mets are coming
off a Sunday Night 5-2 win over the Marlins thanks to a well needed 7 innings
from Noah Syndergaard and a timely solo homer from Jay Bruce to give the
Metropolitans the edge late. The Mets are tied for the divisional lead through
a week of play at 3-3, while the Yankees are 3-4 and a game and half back of
the division lead (not that it matters at this point). But, it is there is
something good to watch every night and it is incredible, thanks Spring.
