In between the Pinstripes #13
In between the
Pinstripes_13: Ecstatic but cautious
start
Well, mark up 7 in a row.
With an explosive 8th inning against the St. Louis bullpen. The game
up until that point was in favor of the Yankees without question. During a
portion of the 8th inning Chapman was warming up because it was a
2-run ball game. Every player in the lineup last night seemed to contribute in some
shape and form.
This incredible start for
the Yanks, winning 7 straight is just without doubt, amazing. At the beginning season,
I thought the bombers were a good team and would have a good season, but now;
the Yankees might have a legitimate shot to win the division. The team is on
fire right now, and getting Gary Sanchez and Didi back is just scary to think
about. I like this ball club, and it’s one of the most likely Yankee teams in
recent memory. The aura around the Bronx is polarizing and exciting. Even with
this being a 12-game sample size in a 162-game season, this winning streak is a
drop in the bucket, but getting off to this great start makes it harder to miss
the playoffs which is so exciting.
Diving deep into this
game, the impact that was the most prevalent was Greg Bird. Bird finally got
his bat going in the regular season with a mammoth blast to back up his brethren
baby bomber Aaron Judge. Bird hit a 340-foot moonshot into the right field
bleacher to go along with a double and a walk in 3 at-bats. However, none of
that would’ve been relevant if Michael Pineda doesn’t go 7 innings giving up
only 2 runs. Because of this, Pineda is my Focus Player of the Day. Pineda’s
final line looked like this: 7 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, one walk, and 6 strike
outs, completely dominated again. Again with this great pitching by Pineda in
particular is extremely small, these two starts should give Pineda a spring
board to have a coming out season (FINALLY!).
With yet another sweep,
the Yankees host the 6-5 Chicago White Sox who are one of the most interesting
teams in baseball because of the storylines on the roster. The Yoan Moncada
storyline of when he will finally get to the majors. Also, the Jose Quintana
trade possibilities and if they will trade him or not. Jordan Montgomery looks
to continue the staffs good pitching, and get his first career Major League
win. The southpaw’s opposition is another southpaw in Derek Holland, who
historically has a rough 1-6 career record against the bombers, also accompanied
with a 6.59 ERA in 56 innings against the Yankees. But, don’t count your
chickens before they hatch, you still have to play the game. As of now, you can
“Start spreading the news” and celebrate the 7th straight Yankee
win.
